James R. Tanner
James R. Tanner now dedicates his legal practice to representing individuals in a broad range of employment law cases, including discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination and other adverse employer actions. James represents federal employees, state and local government employees, law enforcement officers, and private sector employees throughout Utah.
He has routinely represented clients in discharges, suspensions, and other disciplinary proceedings. He has represented in performance-based actions and adverse security clearance determinations. For a period of years, Mr. Tanner has represented clients bringing discrimination claims before the Utah Labor Commission (UALD).He has assisted clients responding to Pre-Determination notices from employers. He has represented numerous federal employees facing discharge and other disciplinary proceedings MSPB and EEOC Administrative Judges.
Mr. Tanner has previously served as a mediator on the Third District Court’s mediation panel. He has served as counsel in numerous employment mediation proceedings. He has taught employment law to undergraduate students and dispute resolution systems to MBA graduate students for the University of Phoenix. Mr. Tanner has twice served as President of the Utah Employment Lawyers Association (UELA), with membership of Utah employment lawyers. UELA is a state affiliate of the National Employment Lawyer’s Association (NELA).
Mr. Tanner currently serves as an Administrative Law Judge and Hearing Officer for Tooele City and, separately, for Tooele County.
